Panama: birds

I moved to Panama in 2015, attracted by its plentiful and little-explored nature, its safety and stability, and the fact that it’s a great hub to explore the Neotropic (i.e. Central and South America including the Caribbean islands), a region that I had somehow neglected until then. Panama has the greatest biodiversity in Central America (greater than Costa Rica, actually), but unlike its neighbor it has never really promoted its eco-tourism industry, so it remains greatly unexplored from a birding and wildlife-watching perspective. However, a few privately-owned lodges and some excellent local birding guides have done a very good job to open birding routes and itineraries, and the country offers some great photography opportunities, with some of the best chances in the world to see iconic species like Harpy Eagle or Resplendent Quetzal.
